On February 11, 1994, at roughly 9:15 p.m., George Radcliffe was fatally shot in his Mazda pickup truck near Sheppard and West Sixth streets in Greenville, North Carolina.

The neighborhood is renowned for being the domicile for being the hub of African-American with a negative reputation for drug activities; Radcliffe was white person, and police suspected the shooting was likely due to a drug related difficulties.

Three hours later, as police were their route to apprehend Dontae Sharpe, who was 19 at the time, Mark Joyner was detained and charged with first-degree murder. Sharpe was a little drug dealer and it is believed that authorities has been trying to captured him and charged him on narcotics charges.

The officer discovered another witness who had seen Sharpe at the shooting a month after Sharpe’s incarceration. Her name was Beatrice Stokes. She was an addict and was familiar with Detective Ricky Best, the lead investigator, because he had previously helped her.

At the summer of 1995, the Sharpe main trial in Pitt County Superior Court began. Judge Richard Parker mandated that the witnesses for both sides be made public. Assistant DA Clark Everett claimed he had security concerns for the witness but neither of the putative prisoners did.

Sharpe’s aunt and a neighbor served as her two alibi witnesses. They went to court to testify that Sharpe spent the majority of the evening with them, eating supper with them, and visiting them when Radcliffe was shot.

However, Sharpe was found guilty, detained, and given a life sentence on July 17, 1995.
