Just before 7:30 in the morning, fire dispatch sent out a call asking for medical assistance for someone who was having a cardiac attack. Other than stating that Falk passed away while on the job, the department did not disclose any other specifics.

Because of outside pressure, the Kern County Fire Department was compelled to organize a memorial march in the town of Fellows on Thursday morning. Originally, they had no plans to do so.

More than one hundred emergency medical technicians, firemen, and law enforcement personnel stood in line to pay their respects to the remains of Station 23 Fire Captain Brian Falk and take part in a short ceremony. The corpse was transported from the little oil town on the west side of Bakersfield to the county coroner’s office on the city’s east side under the protection of law enforcement officials and a fire department chopper.

As the procession arrived at the coroner’s office, Kern County Fire Chief Aaron Duncan was there to pay his respects to his buddy and fellow firefighter. The procession was greeted by flashing lights and stiff salutes.
