Helen Cross, a former colleague who served in the ACT Legislative Assembly, died away recently at her home in the Gungahlin neighborhood.
Helen was put to rest in a private ceremony in the Greek Orthodox section of the Gungahlin cemetery last week. There, she was reunited with her cherished husband David Cross, who had sadly gone away in May of the previous year. David had passed away in the same month as Helen.
A member of her family put a box on top of her coffin that contained the love letters and Valentine cards that David had given to her throughout the course of their roughly 35-year relationship. Theirs was a tale of undivided love and devotion.
Helen was a larger-than-life character who, it’s true, some people sometimes found problematic. But overall, she was a force to be reckoned with. She was involved in a wide variety of important endeavors, but her dedication to the community in which she lived was unwavering.
