Smith-Njigba spent his childhood in Rockwall, Texas, and received his high school education there. During his junior year of high school football, Smith-Njigba topped all of the high school football players in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex with 97 catches, 1,828 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns. Both the Landry Title and the Texas Gatorade Football Player of the Year award were bestowed to him after he completed his senior season with 104 receptions for 2,094 yards and 35 touchdowns while playing for his high school team. Smith-Njigba was honored as a high school All-American by Sports Illustrated and USA Today, in addition to being selected to participate in the 2019 All-American Bowl. After playing a total of 44 games throughout his high school career, Smith-Njigba concluded with a career receiving yardage of 5,346 and 82 touchdowns.

Biography, Career/Education and Achievements
As a freshman at Ohio State, Smith-Njigba participated in seven games and topped the team’s other first-year players with 10 catches, 49 yards, and one score.
In preparation for his second year with the Buckeyes, the coaching staff decided to give him the starting nod at the slot receiver position. During a victory over Nebraska by a score of 26–17 on November 6, 2021, Smith-Njigba set a new school record for receptions in a single game with 15, set a new school record for receiving yards in a game with 240 (at the time, the second most receiving yards in a game in school history), and scored a touchdown. In the latter part of that season, he broke both an FBS record and a school record most receiving yards in a single game with his 347 yard performance for Ohio State in their victory against Washington in the 2022 Rose Bowl. He also recorded 15 receptions, tying his own record set against Nebraska.
