Oyebanji was proclaimed the victor by the returning officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Oyebode Adebowale. Adebowale said that Oyebanji earned a total of 187,057 votes, making him the winner of the election.

He said that he was declared the victor on the basis that Oyebanji had given his stamp of approval to the bill.
The INEC returning officer, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, revealed that Mr. Segun Oni, the candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), came in second place with 82, 211 votes while he was giving the breakdown of the total votes earned by the participating political parties.
According to him, other candidates who received votes included Chief Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 67,457 votes; Accord (A), which received 166 votes; the African Action Congress (AAC), which received 409 votes; the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which received 17 votes; and the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), which received 141 votes.
A total of 5,597 votes were cast for the Action Democratic Party (ADP), while -290 votes were cast for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), 195 votes were cast for the Labour Party (LP), 529 votes were cast for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and 347 votes were cast for the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

The remaining parties were the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), which received 282 votes; the Young Progressives Party (YPP), which received 618 votes; the All Peoples Party (APP), which received 1,980 votes; and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), which received 856 votes.
According to the information provided by the INEC Returning Officer, the total number of registered voters was 989,224, the number of accredited voters was 363,438, the number of valid votes was 351,865, and the number of voided votes was 8888.
According to Professor Gbolagade Jonathan, who serves as the Collation Officer for the Ekiti South West Local Government Area, there have been claims of stolen ballots in Ward 6, Units 5 and 7.
When Jonathan was providing his reports, he revealed that they were getting ready to sort the results when armed individuals approached the effected units and starting firing at random. As a consequence, everyone was forced to run for their protection while the voting boxes were being transported away.
