Nazrin Hassan: Samirah and two other kids were discharged from the Cradle Fund CEO murder trial.
Four years ago, Samirah Muzaffar and two teenagers were exonerated by the High Court of the charge that they had murdered her husband, Nazrin Hassan, CEO of Cradle Fund. According to the judge, Ab Karim Ab Rahman, the prosecution did not succeed in establishing a prima facie case against the defendants.
On June 14, 2018, Samirah, 47, the two youngsters, who are now 19 and 16, and Indonesian maid Eka Wahyu Lestari, who is still at large, were accused of killing Nazrin at their residence in Mutiara Damansara. Eka Wahyu Lestari was still at large at the time of the crime. Karim came to the conclusion that the prosecution did not provide sufficient evidence to prove that Nazrin passed away between 11.30 p.m. on June 13, 2018 and 4 a.m. on June 14, 2018.
The prosecution claimed that the deceased passed away at this period, while the evidence of his sister, Che Elainee Che Hassan, revealed that he (Nazrin) read his sister’s message around 11.50 o’clock at night.
He said, “There is no direct proof that they (Samirah and the two teens) committed the offense.” He was referring to the fact that there was no physical evidence. He said that the prosecution “assumed” that Samirah and the teenagers were there when Nazrin passed away. In addition to this, he said that the prosecution made an attempt to incriminate Samirah by asserting that she did not contact the fire department and was not “sad” when her husband passed away.
“However, her acts were only the prosecution’s view,” he stated. “There is no evidence to support this assertion.”
